Our Privacy Commitment

RenterCalc.com provides free informational tools and general guidance about security deposit laws in the United States. We built this site with a simple philosophy: your data stays with you.

All deposit calculations, demand letter drafts, and state law lookups run entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is transmitted to our servers or stored anywhere outside your device.

Information We Do Not Collect

RenterCalc does not collect, store, or process the following types of personal information:

• Your name, email address, or any contact information
• Your home address, landlord's address, or any property details you enter
• Your deposit amount, move-in or move-out dates
• Any content you type into the demand letter generator
• Account credentials — we have no accounts or login system
• Payment information — every tool on this site is free
• Location data beyond what you voluntarily select (state dropdown)

Information We May Collect

While we do not collect personal data, we may receive limited, anonymous usage data through standard web technologies:

• Analytics: We may use a privacy-focused analytics service (such as Google Analytics with IP anonymization enabled) to understand aggregate site usage — pages visited, time on site, and general geographic region (country or state level, not precise location). This data is anonymous and cannot be used to identify you.
• Ad networks: This site may display ads served by third-party ad networks. Those networks may use cookies to show you relevant ads based on your browsing history. We do not control or have access to data collected by ad networks. You can opt out through the NAI opt-out tool at optout.networkadvertising.org.
• Server logs: Our hosting provider may automatically log standard HTTP request data (IP address, browser type, referring URL, page requested, timestamp). These logs are used for security and uptime monitoring only and are not shared or used for marketing.

Cookies

RenterCalc itself does not set first-party cookies for tracking or user identification. We do not use login sessions, shopping carts, or persistent user preferences that require cookies.

Third-party services embedded on this site (analytics, ad networks, fonts loaded via Google Fonts CDN) may set their own cookies subject to their respective privacy policies.

To disable cookies: You can configure your browser to block or delete cookies at any time. Most browsers include cookie controls in Settings → Privacy or Tools → Options. Disabling cookies will not affect your ability to use any RenterCalc tool, as no tool requires cookies to function.

Your Rights

Because we do not collect personal data, most privacy rights (access, deletion, portability) are automatically satisfied — there is simply nothing to access or delete. However, we respect applicable privacy laws:

• GDPR (EU/UK residents): You have the right to request information about any personal data we hold about you and to request its deletion. Given our no-collection policy, we expect to confirm that no data exists. Requests can be sent to the contact address below.
• CCPA (California residents): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information. We do not collect personal information beyond anonymous analytics described above.
• To exercise your rights: Contact us using the information in the Contact section below. We will respond within 30 days.

Third-Party Links

RenterCalc may contain links to external websites, including state government portals, legal resources, and reference materials. These sites are not operated by RenterCalc and are governed by their own privacy policies.

We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of third-party sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

Continued use of RenterCalc after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. If we ever introduce data collection practices that materially change this policy, we will add a visible notice on the site.
